GENRES: Afropop, Afrobeats
“Abule” is the lead single from Three, the upcoming third album from afro-dancehall superstar PATORANKING. An impeccably danceable slice of afropop from one of Nigeria’s most iconic voices, “Abule” takes its title from a Yoruba term translating to ghetto, or “hood.” The Telz-produced track narrates a typical day for Pato as he attends an open-air party with friends. Inspired by a
real-life experience, the track is at once a tribute to the culture of his hometown of Ebute Metta, and to hoods worldwide. “Because I’m from the ghetto, I can always make ghetto-relatable tunes but it’s been a while that I’ve actually done something in that form and element,” PATORANKING says of “Abule.” “When I heard that beat, I felt like telling a story about what happens in the hood. Everybody from the ghetto can naturally relate.”
